The Pfister Hotel; Lobby Lounge
Hello Reader,
I am writing from the Lobby Lounge at The Pfister Hotel, in the back corner, just in front of the grand piano and bust of Guido Pfister.
I prefer quiet corners in busy, beautiful spaces.
Whether a café, library, or hotel lobby, I love being just outside of the commotion, on the periphery but with a good view of all that is happening.
A series of instances, choices perhaps, led me here. Whether they were truly mine or a path already laid out for me, I’d like to think a bit of both brought me to The Pfister Hotel.
A little about me...
My name is Megan Dorsey and I am an antique collector and owner of Everthine Antiques, based in Milwaukee, WI. I’ve been collecting antiques for as long as I can remember (more on that later).
I’ve been featured in Milwaukee Magazine, Architectural Digest’s Grand Home Tour, and a panel discussion at the Winterthur Museum’s “Fresh Perspectives” symposium. I have also collaborated with brands such as Esterbrook Pens, Doen, The Dubbel Dutch Hotel, and more.
My business consists of items for sale that I’ve sourced in my travels, as well as stationery I’ve designed using photographs of Black folks, largely from the Victorian era through the 1960s, and ephemera from my collection. The stationery piece stems from the ongoing reckoning I experience navigating the antiques space as a Black woman encountering racist images and publications from our country’s past. I wanted to create something I could see myself in, and give that to others like me, as well as to those who call Black and brown folks their friends, family, and lovers.
Over the next year, I’ll share stories about the Pfister (its archives, spaces, and art collection) alongside my own personal musings. I’ll cover events, food, and lifestyle, and I’ll introduce you to the people I meet along the way, from the doorman to the concierge and everyone in between.
Alright, it’s time for me to migrate to another cozy corner (I do that a lot). I’m glad you found yourself here. If you haven’t already, follow me on Instagram @ThePfisterStoryteller and come along as I share stories of The Pfister and a few of my own.
Until next time,
Megan
